Clinical demand is not the same as a procurable opportunity. Medical technology companies entering Egypt must manage product classification, regulatory requirements, procurement decisions, technical deployment and ongoing service as linked workstreams. A distributor appointment by itself does not resolve them
Start with the product and intended use
Write down exactly what is being supplied. A diagnostic software workflow, medical device, laboratory instrument and hospital consumable may face different documentation and acceptance requirements. Define intended use, manufacturer, product variants, accessories, software dependencies, installation environment and any claims the supplier expects to make
The Egyptian Drug Authority provides official information and electronic services related to medical devices. Classification and current registration or import requirements must be confirmed for the specific product and transaction rather than inferred from an unrelated category
Map the institution's decision chain
Clinical users establish functional relevance. Biomedical engineering and IT may evaluate integration, servicing and cybersecurity. Procurement and finance control contracting, budgets and compliance. Department leadership and executive sponsors may be responsible for adoption and investment justification. The buying route varies across hospitals and procurement models
Before outreach, identify the clinical problem, the technical evidence needed, likely purchasing trigger, responsible decision roles and likely approval sequence. A positive product demonstration is not confirmation of funding
Establish local responsibility
The commercial structure must clarify who handles registration support, importation, customs documentation, installation, training, warranty, spare parts, maintenance, software updates and technical escalation. The owner of each responsibility should be explicit in the proposal and the commercial contract
If a solution handles clinical data, privacy, information security and IT integration deserve a separate review. Do not treat regulatory authorization, cybersecurity clearance and hospital procurement approval as the same thing
Qualify the buying opportunity
Ask whether the institution has the intended use case, an applicable budget, a planned procurement route, an internal sponsor and the ability to operate the solution. Define what a pilot must prove and the conditions under which it can convert to purchasing. A pilot without ownership and decision criteria is a demonstration expense
Structure an evidence based launch
First confirm the product's regulatory position and likely hospital buyers. Then speak to a short list of institutions about purchasing requirements, integration and service. Only then is it reasonable to set broader distribution commitments, forecast deployment resources and negotiate expansion terms
This checklist concerns commercial planning, not regulatory approval. Product specific approvals should be confirmed directly against current EDA requirements and by competent local specialists
